How To Make Your Car Insurance Company Love You

With the New Year upon us, many of us will resolve to manage our finances better. One way to do this is to ensure that you get the best price on your car insurance.  So what can you do to ensure that you keep your car insurance premiums low?

There are a few tips and tricks you can use to drive your motor insurance premiums down, apart from the most important money saving exercise - shopping around!  Insurers will love you and give you a better deal if you:

  • Increase your voluntary excess
  • Park your car overnight in garage or private driveway
  • Don’t have any young drivers on your policy
  • Don’t ’soup’ your car up with flashy wheels and big exhausts
  • You limit your mileage
  • Don’t use the car for business purposes
  • Keep your licence clean and free from speeding tickets and fines for going through red lights

Parents Grease The Wheels To Get Kids On The Road

The UK’s parents are bankrolling the purchase of their children’s first car. Over 11 million drivers have received a helping hand from Mum, Dad or Granny to finance their first motor, according to Zurich Insurance.

Parents and grandparents have splashed out an average of £2,400 for their child or grandchild’s first car – with some parents (14 per cent) generously contributing more than £5,000. They are even giving cars as presents with one in 10 (11 per cent) buying the car for birthdays and five per cent giving them as a present for doing well in exams.

And it’s not just the initial purchase of the vehicle that parents are paying out for - with the average cost to keep a car on the road hitting £1,776.62 (based on day-to-day costs like vehicle tax, fuel and maintenance), almost a third (29 per cent) of parents and grandparents are contributing over £1,000 a year to the maintenance of their child or grandchild’s car as well.

Some parents and grandparents are having to pay out double as they shell out to keep their own vehicle and their child’s on the road - half are forking out for car insurance costs, 42 per cent help to pay for vehicle tax, over a third (34 per cent) for the car’s MOT and one in five even fund the fuel bills.

Keeping kids safe on the road is a major motivation for parents to dig deep, with two thirds (65 per cent) agreeing that they prefer to know that the car is fully covered and in good condition, 59 per cent feel happier knowing that the car is roadworthy and safe, and more than two in five (43 per cent) say they contribute as they don’t want their kids risking breaking down and getting stuck.

Roy Seeds, head of motor underwriting at Zurich Insurance said; “The cost of running a vehicle can be expensive, and its no wonder parents are now helping their youngsters out to get them on the road. We don’t want to see young motorists caught short when the bank of Mum and Dad closes so once they have that first car, they can help themselves by getting their car regularly checked over and even taking advanced driver training which will bring down their car insurance premium.

Get Quotes For Women’s Car Protection The Easy Way

Women have been classed as safer drivers due to the fact that they make fewer claims but there are other ways that you can make great savings when it comes to knocking down the cost of women’s car cover. Installing extra safety features, driving a smaller car and keeping your car in a garage are all great ways.

Not only can women make great reductions in your premiums on the cost of car cover but a specialist website will also throw in deals along with the insurance cover which are specifically aimed at women. Handbag insurance services and breakdown product are two of the most popular additional benefits which are often included into the cost of a product or which can be added for very little cost.

A specialist website offering women’s car cover will allow you to get multiple quotes from some of the leading insurance services companies in the UK and all quotes should come with the key facts of the insurance product so you are able to make an informed decision. Going with a specialist in female car cover can help you to find not only budget possible insurance product along with the best deal, but they can also give you information regarding some of the different ways that you can help yourself to make cost cuts.

It has been shown that women are the safest drivers due to them making fewer claims, due to this different insurers now offer insurance protection which is lower in cost as a reward and can also throw in extra benefits such as breakdown and handbag cover.

Confused.com Comes Out Top In Car Insurance Rate Testing

An independent research company recently compared the four main UK price comparison sites to see which one would come out tops on car insurance. Their findings showed that Confused.com is the site most likely to save you £££££!

Independent research company Consumer Intelligence* recently compared the four major players in the UK price comparison market to see which one would come out tops on car insurance deals.Their results found that Confused.com is No. 1 for finding the cheapest car insurance quote!

Details of the Consumer Intelligence Trial
In September 2007, independent researchers Consumer Intelligence undertook mystery shopping tests to measure the performance of the four leading car insurance price comparison sites.

Consumer Intelligence researchers input the same 1,000 car insurance risks into the four search engines and recorded the results - all without the knowledge of the companies being tested.

Each of the 1,000 ‘risks’ represented an imaginary driver with different variables (age, sex, postcode, points on license, previous claims, type of car etc.) to achieve a broad cross-section of insurance applicants.

As a key indicator of which site provides the best service, researchers looked at which price comparison site returned the cheapest car insurance quote most often.

Results showed that Confused.com returned the cheapest car insurance quote over a hundred times more often than their nearest rival, and as many cheapest quotes as both the third and fourth place comparison sites combined!
Confused.com already goes to 97% of all online car insurers to display up-to-the-minute quotes, and last year provided 8 million car insurance quotes and saved drivers £215 on average. The results of this trial are further testament to the company’s unrivalled commitment to saving its customers money.

*Consumer Intelligence is an independent consumer research company that tests, compares and benchmarks the performance of competing organisations. Data and findings are judged against five key criteria: accurate, meaningful, relevant, timely and useful. Test carried out September 2007.

There Are Numerous Car Cover Companies Offering Budget Insurance On The Web

When it comes to taking out car cover then there are many car cover companies offering insurance on the Internet and lower cost way to get the policy is to go with a specialist website. Someone who specialises in finding cover will be able to gather the cheapest quotes along with the key facts so you know what is included in the insurance cover and what is not.

There are three basic types of car insurance; fully comprehensive which as the name suggests covers you for the most scenarios, third party fire and theft and finally third party only. Third party fire and theft is the very lower cost but the offering is very limited and won’t payout for damage done to your car in an accident.

Third party fire and theft is a common choice and the majority of younger drivers take this option because the premiums are cheaper. That said, if your car is over a certain value then you might not have any other option but to take out a fully comprehensive offering.

A specialist website will be able to give you all the information relating to all types of cover so you are able to get the best deals after fully understanding the type of insurance you need. They should also provide you with the key facts so you are able to read through them and find any extra costs and the terms and problems of the insurance cover you are considering applying for.

There are many ways you can help to make savings when comparing car insurance companies quotes, for instance installing the latest safety features such as wheel locks, immobilisers and tracking devices can knock money off the premiums charged for a motor insurance product. If you have not bought your car then looking at a car with a smaller engine size can save you money and even the colour of car you require can also save you money.

Car Use Essential Despite ‘Greener’ Living Reveals New Survey

According to a recent survey out , 78% of Britons have changed their behaviour to become ‘greener’ in the last twelve months but that doesn’t extend to being able to give up their cars to help protect the environment.

The findings taken from a survey of 1500 car users, confirm that using the car to get to work, take the children to school and collect the shopping is an essential part of life for Britons today and that for over three quarters of those involved public transport was not a viable alternative to the car.

Other key findings from the survey commissioned by ibuyeco, the new eco-friendly UK car insurance scheme, included

  • Less than a third of respondents were willing to take part in International Car Free Day
  • 73% of people have no idea how much CO₂ the average car emits
  • More women than men are concerned about their car’s environmental impact
  • More women than men feel they have done more in the last 12 months to become greener
  • However more men than women would be willing to give up their car if public services improved
  • Meanwhile nearly twice as many women as men are worried about overcrowding on public transport
  • Public transport was not considered a viable option because of time/delays (35%), convenience (30%), cost (27%)
  • People in the North East worry most about the environment compared to other regions in England, Scotland and Wales
  • People in South East least likely to give up their car and least concerned about ‘green’ car issues
  • Regions with greenest changes are Wales and Scotland
  • Recycling is the No. 1 green activity with 80% admitting to recycling household waste and only 7% saying that they haven’t done anything at all to become greener

However for car owners with a conscience, ibuyeco provides a practical solution to helping protect the environment without having to give up their cars. With ibuyeco, drivers can now use part of their insurance to counter the damage done by their cars to the environment by offsetting all of their CO2 emissions for the duration of their policy.

One of the first schemes of its kind in the UK, ibuyeco is a competitively priced insurance offering inclusive of the carbon offsetting fee. A small additional amount is added to customers’ insurance cost to counter the damage done by driving a car. This is calculated based on the type of vehicle and the estimated mileage details provided by customers. Emissions are calculated using guidelines from several key groups and bodies, including DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). Despite the addition, ibueyco compares well against other insurance products on the market and research has shown that consumers can actually save money with the scheme, compared to other brands; up to £175.88!

The additional amount contributes towards the funding of specific projects via The CarbonNeutral Company (TCNC), one of the world’s leading full service carbon management businesses. The projects fall into different categories, including energy efficiency, reforestation and renewable energy, and are based both home and abroad.

*Based on independent online research by Consumer Intelligence during 1st April 2007 to 30th April 2007. 10% of consumers achieve this saving with ibuyeco Motor Insurance
